Just a few years after moving to Rowan County and only eight years after Rowan County was created by the Kentucky legislature, William Charlie Stewart was elected to be the County's Justice of the Peace in 1864. He held this office for six years. Known as Squire Stewart, he often appeared in court representing others. The last reference of him appearing in court was 1883. He, of course, is Alexander and Catherine Stewart's only child.
