January 13, 1992

Dear David,

I apologize for taking so long to do this, but we've been busy during the holidays and have had other things come up. I have given you all the information I know, and there are time gaps. Refer to the letter I wrote you if these pages aren't clear. We would be happy to hear from you again when you have a chance to write. Be good and know that you are in my prayers.

Although a time gap follows, I will try to continue the family history as I know it--for the period: 1839-1988


James Stewart (1839-1881) was a minister and county judge. He had five sons: William, Crittenden, James, Wesley, and Logan

Logan Stewart married Dora Rays and they had several children including William, Alexander, James Claud, Emma, Gracie, Melva. Logan Stewart was Arthur Rockafellow's grandfather through his son Alexander and mine through his son, James Claud, Margaret Stewart Caudill, also Margaret Woods. Your grandfather, Alexander, lived with my family, James Claud and Cora Stewart when he was a young man, and I remember him. All are deceased.

I don't have any information about my father's siblings Gracie, Melva or William.

Alexander (Alex) Stewart married Irene (I think). Their children were James Arthur, Carl Rockafellow, Margaret Woods.

Emma Stewart married George McCours. Both Aunt Emma and her husband George are deceased. Their son, Everet McCours, married Hazel. They had a son and a daughter. I do not know the maiden name of Everet's wife. Both Aunt Emma and her husband George are deceased. Everet and his wife Hazel live in Ashland, Ky.

James Claud Stewart was my father (Margaret Stewart Caudill). James Claud Stewart (1885-1965) married Cora Parker (1983-1986) There children were Margaret, Carl Edgar, Lillian.

Margaret married Fred Caudill--no children. Lillian married Herbert Peter Shelton--no children. Carl, my brother is deceased. His children listed below are my nephews and niece. They are:

Carl Edgar Stewart (1914-1977) married Christine Wicker (1919-1988).

Carl Edgar Stewart, born 1914 at Haldeman, Rowan County, Ky, died 1977. Millwright, last living in Franklin, Ohio. 2 siblings. They had the following children: (1) Kathyrn Rhea married Stewart Stout; (2) Ronald Keith; (3) Twins Lawrence Allen and Carl Ellis (5) James Claud; (6)Terry Wicker; (7) Dan Parker, and (8) Mark Logan.

Carl Edgar Stewart and Christine Wicker were the parents of 8 children--all living. Kay (Katherine Rhea Stout) and her husband have no children. Ronald has 3; Lawrence Allen has 3; Carl Ellis has 2; James Claud has 4; Terry Wicker has 4; Dan Parker has none; Mark Logan is not married. Ronald has 1 grandchild; Lawrence has 4; Terry has 1.

Lillian Stewart Shelton, born September 3, 1916 at Haldeman, Rowan County, Ky. She was a teacher and government employee living in Blacksburg, Virginia. Siblings Margaret and Carl Edgar.

Carl Edgar Stewart, born 1914 at Haldeman, Rowan County, Ky, died 1977. Millwright, last living in Franklin, Ohio. 2 siblings.
