WPA Projects - Stone Quarry

In 1935 President Franklin Delano Roosevelt formed the Works Progress Administration which was later re-named Work Projects Administration. The WPA program was part of his "New Deal" for America, a plan to create jobs after the Great Depression. The WPA was abolished in 1942. Here we see the mining of stone at the Bluestone quarry for use in the constuction of several public works (mostly schools and voting houses) in Rowan County.
